The following subject has weighed heavy on my heart for quite a while. We're doing Christmas different this year. I have a plan that I hope I can unpack on this blog. My prayer is that this will be the Christmas that my girls look back on as there best Christmas ever even though we gave hardly any material gifts at all. Please join me in prayer that as parents, we all will teach our children the true joy of Christmas this year. Someone told me that last year they had their children go through their gifts and give 5 of them away. I thought that was a really good lesson. We will be doing Christmas a little differently this year and giving gifts to Jesus and doing a birthday party on Christmas... trying to take the focus off of us and on Him. Wow. That is pretty incredible and seems so simple, really. but why does it seem so hard at the same time. I'm going to pray that God gives me the strength to curb the habit (addiction, lure) to spend on all those things I, we, they don't really need. This message is powerful and I'm sure I will come back and watch it many times over the next few weeks to remind me and if I forget or get sidetracked I'll ask you to remind me of the "real" point of Christmas.

Dana, thank you for putting that on here. I just showed it to Jason and we will be in prayer with you guys. We have also felt this pull for several years, but it is hard when you have others that don't see the real value in something like this.
Most of my favorite Christmas memories come from the Christmases that my family couldn't afford presents, or the ones where we couldn't afford "nice" ones. The girls will be so grateful when they have those kinds of memories because y'all made that decision. Memories retain their value much better than fancy presents! ;)
Austin's birthday is November 30th and, then, Christmas follows. It is easy to get "swept up" in it. Especially with kids. Austin understands his birthday present is his birthday party. We got him clothes and books for Christmas.
I loved this video and it really has me thinking.
