Mommy Tips

Okay, until I get my act together and get the last pictures I took edited and our income taxes done, I was hoping to do a kind of interactive blog. We all know that mothering isn't easy but I would like to hear any tips you might have that we could use to help each other along. It can be anything from cleaning, to getting your child to sleep through the night, to the things you do to energize yourself to products you can't live without. I'll start.. and as others add things, maybe I will think of more.

Cleaning--
Vinegar, water, and baking soda are the best cleaners. I rarely need anything else.

Laundry--
-turning clothes inside out to wash them helps prevent fading.
-sometimes you can stretch a piece of clothing that has shrunk by washing in hair conditioner (depends on the material)
-RIT dye does wonders!

Sickness-
-a spoon full of sugar does help the medicine go down, it also cures hiccups.
-I swear by the Vicks on the feet for persistent coughs
-a bath soak in Epson salts helps achy muscles and energizes by removing toxins.
-telling your child that you got a girl scout badge for taking out splinters gets her to sit still so that you can remove hers. Or at least it worked with my child. Yes, it was a lie, don't worry, I asked for forgiveness.
-keeping a set of red hand towels on hand is useful in case of an accident with blood. It helps a lot with the drama if they can't see the blood.
-buy stock in band-aid

Okay, that's all I've got for now hopefully ya'll have some better ones. Becky, we definitely want to hear your trick for getting rid of the boogie man.

-- I used Monster Spray too. But It wasn't air freshener. We bought a water spray bottle from target and just put water in it... I think I even drew a monster face with an X over it on it. we sprayed it every night before bed. It was awesome.

-- As far as medicine goes, we do chasers (and yes we call them that)... It doesn't matter what she chases it with (coke, a juicebox, water). If she has a chaser, she'll take it with no problem.

-- SHOP CONSIGNMENT. I don't know how I would have clothed Sarah Jane without consignment sales. Also, I buy a season ahead at the end of the clothing season. I typically buy one to two sizes bigger at the end of the season for next year. If the price is really good, I will even buy three to four sizes up. I haven't calculated it, but I have probably saved thousands of dollars this way. This works on everything but shoes.

That is about it... I think you covered everything else. If I think of anything, I'll be back. :)

{I am going to try that hair conditioner thing... I wish that I would have known that years ago}

and Hairspray will remove ink from anything from leather sofa to plastic toys.... learned that today when Rider took an orange sharpie to everything he owns! spray it on and wipe it off, it's awesome!

Well, since I'm new to the group I don't know that I'll have anything new to contribute ...
- K2r Original spotlifter is highly effective in removing stains, oil and grease from dry-clean only fabrics, washable fabrics, carpets and upholstery!
- saltwater also works good if you don't have saline for nasal congestion, the dr told me to do that when I was pregnant to avoid using meds.
-Rinsing new vibrant clothes in vinegar before washing helps keep the color from fading. You just have to do this once, not everytime=)
- Omelet-in-a-bag is a fun way for kids to help make breakfast. Start by buying freezer ziplock bags (lunch size), cook up any meat (sausage, ham or bacon) that you would like in your omelet, any extras like shredded cheese, onions, peppers ... use two raw eggs per bag and add your favorite ingrediants, shake and seal tight, place bag in boiling water for about 7 min or until done.

Well that's it, probably nothing new or exciting=)

WD-40 removes crayon marks on paint. Then use dish soap (Dawn or whatever) to remove the WD-40. If only my mom had known that when I was a kid!
Fingertip band-aids aren't just for fingertips. They also work well on elbows, knees, and the bottoms of feet.

Cheerios are a MUST for potty training little boys. They'll do "target practice" and love it.
